MISHCAM VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

Are you ready for the trip of a lifetime?

WHAT IS MISHCAM?

Mishcam is CKF’s very own hands-on volunteer trip. Just ask any past Mishcammer, and they will tell you it is one of the greatest experiences of their lives.

The trip brings serious hands-on volunteering together with a relaxing holiday and some sightseeing as you travel across Cambodia.

The trips are tailor-made depending on the group that is going and the skill base of the volunteers in each group. We do construction, medical assistance, teaching, training, designing, planning – Whatever it is you’re good at, that’s what you can help us with.

We have had school groups, team-building trips for businesses, schoolies groups and other groups that are open to public. We don’t discriminate, anyone can join as long as they are good people and want to help Cambodia!

"The Cambodian children opened our family's hearts and eyes forever"

MISHCAM TRIPS ARE NOT RUN BY A BUSINESS OR TRAVEL COMPANY. THE TRIPS ARE RUN BY THE CAMBODIAN KIDS FOUNDATION, A NOT FOR PROFIT, NON RELIGIOUS & NON POLITICAL REGISTERED NGO.

THEY ARE TRIPS FOR PEOPLE WANTING TO EXPERIENCE THE ‘REAL’ CAMBODIA, LIVE LIKE A LOCAL, SEE THE COUNTRYSIDE AND HELP PEOPLE WHILST DOING SO.

WHY DO WE RUN THESE TRIPS?

#1

We think it is important that every person be involved in making the world a better place. Sometimes people find it hard to make a difference, we want to make it easier and more accessible – we want to prove that making a difference is not as hard as people think!

#2

As our foundation is a not for profit organisation, everyone works for free. The Australian staff on the Mishcam trips are working for free, the Khmer staff are paid for their usual jobs but are going above and beyond what their job description states and requires. Why? because we all love this foundation and the 15 projects we run through this foundation. Our foundation has become TOO BIG to just do small fundraising, thousands of people depend on us every day to open our school doors, to open our medical clinic etc.

#3

We work with over 1000 children on a daily basis, and you would have no idea the progress a lot of these kids make whilst we have visitors over here. They are fast and willing learners and absorb anything that is taught to them – our volunteers make a big difference to these kids and that’s what we are all about. Creating opportunities so that the kids we work with benefit greatly.

"The Cambodian children opened our family's hearts and eyes forever"

My name is Melissa, last year my husband and I took our five children on our first Mishcam trip. We wanted our kids to be able to experience and understand life like the less fortunate children do, and at the same time we wanted to make a difference and donate our time and money to helping those kids. We had no idea of the impact this trip would have on our entire family. The Cambodian children opened our family’s hearts and eyes forever. We found true love and connection in a tiny village across the globe, and finally found a charity making visible, immeasurable impact. The entire community genuinely benefits from every MishCam trip, and what we thought we could do to help their people, came back to us tenfold. “I see now that you don’t need ‘stuff’ to be happy,” said my 11 year old son. “The kids are so happy, just with our friendship and knowing we are willing help them out.” There were so many moments like this I will treasure forever.

WHAT'S INVOLVED IN A MISHCAM TRIP?

Our foundation runs projects all over Cambodia, so people coming on a Mishcam Trip get to see all over Cambodia.

From the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh, the slum areas, to the paradise type beaches of Kep, the peaceful rural life in Soksan Village, Kampong Thom to the tourist central Siem Reap & Angkor Wat.

This trip offers more than any other Cambodia tour trip is offering. Not only do you get to see and do a lot you also get to volunteer… in our projects, with real kids and real families – and the difference you make to them is REAL!

From teaching English, putting on art, music and dance classes – building gardening beds, teaching kindergarten kids, planting trees, building dirt roads, building reading rooms and more.

We want you to leave a little piece of you in Cambodia, and take away a lot of amazing experiences!

We want you to take away lifelong friendships with the people and kids, we want you to take away beautiful images and memories of all over Cambodia.

Cambodia is a place with a lot to offer, unfortunately most tourists who come here, stay in one area, drink a lot of cheap alcohol maybe give money to a street kid and then go home.

This is NOT Cambodia. Mishcam trips offer you a chance to see the REAL Cambodia.

MISHCAM COSTS

AUD$1,500

Per person for two (2) weeks

This includes all ground costs (accommodation, food, transport, entry tickets etc.)
This fee does not include airfares to Cambodia. (we can help with your travel arrangements)

AUD$1,500

All Mishcam volunteers must also fundraise at least $1500 before joining the trip. This money goes toward the running of our projects, but also serves as a commitment from our volunteers that they are genuine and dedicated to helping the cause and that’s important to us.

"It was a trip of a lifetime to say the least"

This year I spent the beginning of 2020 in Cambodia with my mum, my brother and close friends on a Mishcam trip. It was a trip of a lifetime to say the least. Spending quality time with my family while exploring and discovering a new country and culture was truly wonderful. The greatest part though was being a part of something bigger than ourselves, together. Our project while at Soksan School was to build a swimming pool for the students so they could learn to swim. Building the pool while the classes were running meant that every day we were bombarded with smiling faces eager to help and see their new pool being built. My mum, brother and I as well as all the other wonderful Mischamers on the trip, all played a part in the building of the project. It did not matter how old or physically capable anyone was, there were always so many different ways to help. The completion of the project was just the greatest feeling for all of us, and I think we would all agree that nothing will ever compare to the joy and smiles that filled the pool and the school when we all got to swim with the students for the first time. Something I will treasure forever, and to have my family and friends there for the journey was just the icing on the cake.
